Feather Feud Introduction
Hello! We are Team MetaGames and we are currently in the process of designing Feather Feud. Feather Feather Feud is a set of party games for casual gamers who are looking to stir up friendly competition. Feather Feud utilizes simple flick and tap mechanics to create an addictive gameplay experience. Currently, Feather Feud features three unique mini-games and two game modes: Single and Tournament.
Our main challenges thus far (we have been in production for about 7 weeks now) has been choosing mechanics and designs that were suitable for up to four players at a time on an iPad. A perfect example of this can be seen in our design history of King of the Rink. As the title states, King of the Rink is a version of KOTR that encourages players to stay in a rink the longest. Our original problem was that we were designing our controls so that the player had to tap on their penguin to move it, but this proved frustrating since the majority of the time players stayed in the middle of the level and everyone’s hands were in the way. No one could see the board. No one was having fun. We ended up giving our controls a facelift and shifted the players input from the penguin itself to the corner of the iPad. This meant that every player had their own designated area to control their penguin and also opened up the board for players to see. Win! However, it still was not fun. We eventually took the idea of traditional KOTR and altered it so that players were moving to different locations on the screen where they would collect points for being inside a colored ring. It is still the same concept of KOTR, but with points, goofy freakin’ penguins, and a lot of friendly competition.
Overall, this project has been both challenging and rewarding to work on for Team MetaGames. We are learning a ton about iOS development, multiplayer games, and general design principles. What more could we ask for?
